Kings XI Punjab vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 16th Match

Chris Gayle - Player of the Match: "I'm always determined. I always give it my all for whatever franchise I represent. I'm a 100 percent. Like I said, it's a new franchise. A lot of people might say that Chris has a lot to prove - he didn't get selected or wasn't picked early in the auction. I think Virender Sehwag has saved IPL by picking me.This is a brilliant start. Viru said in an interview that if Chris Gayle can win us two games, we have got our money's worth. I'd like to have a another word with Viru and see what happens from thereon. Overall, happy with the win and now (time to) move on to Kolkata. It all depends on the mood and conditions are also tricky as well. Playing so many years in India, I know what the conditions are like. I am glad to get a hundred today. This is the final home game in Mohali, and I'm going to miss this wicket. I'm not really here to prove it to anyone. I've done it all before. Been there, done that. Just here to put some respect on the name. Tomorrow's my daughter's birthday, so going to spend some time with her and enjoy this win. DON'T FORGET THE NAME."
Had to be Chris Gayle who gets the final say. This Man of the Match interview is pure gold. A couple of gems in there.
By virtue of their win, Punjab broke their losing streak against SRH in Mohali which stood at 4 games before tonight. This win also took them to 6 points, giving them 3rd place on the points table. It was SRH's first defeat of the season but they stay on 2nd in the table.
Then Punjab struck a huge psychological blow as Barinder Sran forced Shikhar Dhawan to retire hurt after hitting him on the left-elbow with one that rose sharply from a length. This happened in the first over of the innings and SRH could never recover from that blow. Despite Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey getting fifties, SRH were always behind the eight-ball and eventually lost by 15 runs.
Quick recap: Chris Gayle set it up for KXIP as he notched up his 6th IPL 100 and first IPL 100 by any player this season. He was particularly severe on Rashid Khan who he smashed for four consecutive sixes to condemn the top ranked T20 bowler to a rare off day. Gayle's pyrotechnics powered KXIP to 193.
It's all over. KXIP have broken their losing streak against SRH in Mohali to win by 15 runs.

Looks like an easy victory for KXIP as the big-hitting Deepak Hooda finds deep mid-wicket as the pressure mounts with tight bowling.
Kane Williamson gets to 50 but it has been a slow innings. The asking rate is now 14rpo and as I type this the SRH skipper holes out to long-off
Yusuf Pathan's chancy innings - where he was dropped twice by Ashwin and Yuvraj respectively - is ended by Mohit Sharma and SRH are in trouble in a big chase.
Not great news if you are a SRH fan. Shikhar Dhawan is forced to retire hurt after being struck a painful blow on the left-elbow by Barinder Sran. That is a big setback in a tall chase.

Chris Gayle - (When Pietersen told him that he was old) A lot of people thought that I am old. Nothing to prove though. Wherever I go across the globe, just want to earn some respect. This one is dedicated to my daughter Crisalina though; it's her birthday tomorrow. So, yeah, this is for her. Tomorrow she will turn two and it's her second time in India. We're hoping to have a nice time. I am glad to score my century in just my second game at home, feels really good. Fantastic innings and I hope we can defend it. (On his work ethics with KXIP) Viru mentioned two good guys to me - the yoga guy and the massage guy, who help me stay flexible. Hopefully, I'll be able to touch my feet in a week's time.
Chris Gayle's interview to Kevin Pietersen right after the innings ended is a must read!
