PRE MATCH ANALYSIS - KOLKATA VS DELHI

Match details:

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Daredevils – 13th Match
16th April 2018
Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Venue:

The Eden Gardens wicket is good for batting and provides help for the spinners as the game progresses. The last match saw a low-scoring encounter courtesy excellent bowling by SRH, which showed that quality pacers can extract bounce and assistance from the pitch.

Preview:

In their last match, Kolkata Knight Riders lost a low scoring game at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was a prime example of the saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. They made three changes, altered their batting order and managed to post a paltry target of 139. Gill batted lower down the order, Narine didn’t open, and Mavi only got the one over late in the innings.

Delhi Daredevils went to Mumbai to play an early evening game on Saturday and won the match by 7 wickets. Some excellent death-overs bowling kept Rohit, Pollard and the Pandya brothers silent and restricted Mumbai Indians to a sub-200 total. Jason Roy, who was called in for Munro, delivered a Man of the Match performance. He ended unbeaten at 91 off 53 deliveries to get the Daredevils off the mark.
Both teams have won once and lost twice so far. Except for the match between Royals and Daredevils, which brought Duckworth Lewis into play resulting in a 6-over chase, all games have been won by the chasing sides in IPL 2018.

Top Fantasy Point scorers:

Kolkata Knight Riders

Sunil Narine (99 points) –

He has one fifty and four wickets to his name in 3 matches. Although Narine was sent lower down the order against Hyderabad, he is still an important player because of his brilliant bowling.

Andre Russell (86.5 points) –

His explosive all-round performance in Chennai showed that he remains as skillful as he was before his ban. Although he is yet to bag a wicket this IPL, he has scored plenty of points with the bat.

Delhi Daredevils

Jason Roy (68.5 points) –

In his first match for DD, Roy scored 91 runs at a strike rate of over 170 and stayed unbeaten till the end of the innings. Despite playing just 1 match, he has emerged as the team’s top point-scorer.

Rishabh Pant (67 points) –

The wicket-keeper batsman ably assisted Roy in the previous match, helping himself to a 25-ball 47 after the dismissal of Gautam Gambhir. He is the only Daredevils batsman to score 20 or more in each of the 3 matches played this season.

Player to avoid:

Colin Munro (DD) @ 9 credits

After 2 underwhelming performances, the Kiwi opener was replaced by Jason Roy in the line-up. Roy had a spectacular debut, earning the Man of the Match award. Gambhir is likely to stick with the same batting order and Munro will have to be happy with a place on the bench.

Value Pick:

Rahul Tewatia (DD) @ 8 credits

It was Tewatia who put a stop to Mumbai’s free-scoring openers and sent them back to the pavilion after they had put together a 102-run partnership. He returned with figures of 2/36 in his four overs and was the reason behind Delhi restricting Mumbai to a total of less than 200.

Suggested team balance:

A balance of batsmen and bowlers would be ideal for this match. Jason Roy, Rahul Tewatia, and Andre Russell are some of the players who look in good touch. Shahbaz Nadeem and Nitish Rana can help with a decent contribution and keep your squad within the 100 credits budget.
